Welcome to SSEL at Caltech

The Social Science Experimental Laboratory (SSEL) is dedicated to research in experimental economics, finance, decision making, and political science.

SSEL is part of The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at Caltech. SSEL opened in 1999, thanks in large part to a generous donation from William D. Hacker, Jr. (BS 1931), in whose honor the lab originally was named. SSEL received additional funding from the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation in the years since and operates as an integral part of HSS to support the research of the division’s faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and students.
